Abstract
Objective: To determine the causes of hand tingling and their distributions encountered in rehabilitation clinic. Hand tingling is one of common symptoms encountered in rehabilitation clinic and have variable causes. Elucidating the specific causes of hand tingling is crucial to plan a therapeutic strategy. However, reports on the causes and distributions of hand tingling encountered in real clinical setting are lack in current literatures.

Materials and Methods: Data were collected from consecutive 89 patients (52.7¡¾12.7 years, range 23¡84 years; 62 of them female), who presented hand tingling as a chief complaint in rehabilitation clinic. They underwent meticulous systemic history taking, physical examinations and laboratory tests. Their causes and clinical manifestations were analyzed according to their clinical diagnosis.

Results: The causes of hand tingling in frequency order were; myofascial pain syndrome 47.8%, cervical radiculopathy 23.2%, adhesive capsulitis 15.9%, carpal tunnel syndrome 8.7%. In 20 patients, definite diagnoses could not be established due to follow up loss. Location of myofascial pain syndrome, which proved tingling sensation to the hand in order of frequency were; trapezius 78.8%, infraspinatus 21.2%, rhomboideus 15.2%.

Conclusion: We might expect clinical diagnoses of myofascial pain syndrome, cervical radiculopathy, adhesive capsulitis, carpal tunnel syndrome as a cause of hand tingling in rehabilitation clinic. We suggest that clinical suspicion, diagnostic work up and therapeutic plan should be established considering these results.
